Mayor Cruz Pérez Cuellar of Juarez City has implemented strict measures to combat disorder at international bridge queues, with drivers who disrupt the line facing fines, vehicle impoundment, and even potential prison time.

The General Coordination of Road Safety (CGSV) has been cracking down on drivers who try to enter the queues improperly, causing inconvenience for others. More than 150 drivers have already been fined, and around 20 have had their vehicles impounded in a public yard (corralón) as a result of their actions.

César Alberto Tapia Martínez, the head of the CGSV, is ensuring that operations are in place to prevent disorder at the bridges. More than 20 officers have been assigned to monitor and prevent improper queueing, in line with the Mayor’s instructions.

“We are not only going to remove them from the line but we will automatically apply the violation for not obeying the traffic preference, not obeying the instructions of the officers, and lack of policy,” explained Operational Director Víctor Daniel Mejía. He also highlighted that drivers who attack or insult the agents face fines ranging from 1,100 pesos to 9,000 pesos.

Mejía reassured citizens that the actions of the agents are being recorded by video cameras, providing irrefutable evidence in the event of complaints. Despite some drivers complaining to a Civic Judge about the actions of the agents, Mejía emphasized that the evidence supports the actions taken by the CGSV.

This crackdown is in response to the large number of people traveling to El Paso, Texas via international bridges, causing significant congestion. Mayor Cruz Pérez Cuellar’s efforts aim to ensure order and safety at the bridges, with strict penalties in place for those who disrupt the flow of traffic.
