Vooruit has been supplying the mayor in Leuven for almost three decades. After 24 years of Louis Tobback, this legislature saw Mohamed Ridouani for the first time. It was no secret that then Vooruit chairman Conner Rousseau wanted to put Ridouani on the Flemish list, but the Leuven resident chose his city and hopes to succeed himself in October.

Current aldermen Lalynn Wadera, Bert Cornillie and Bieke Verlinden follow in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. The latter has been elected as party leader for the Flemish Parliament in Flemish Brabant in place of Ridouani. Furthermore, Christophe Stockman (place 5), current chairman of social housing company Dijledal, and Lothe Ramakers (place 6), currently group leader in the municipal council, are also established figures.

At the bottom of the list, the name of Liesbet Stevens, deputy director of the Institute for Equality of Men and Women, stands out. Stevens was also a municipal councilor in Leuven from 2008 to 2018. Just above Stevens is Bruno Tobback, current Flemish Member of Parliament.

A total of 38 candidates have been announced. The final names will be announced before the summer.
