Take a stand against the Cavaglià waste-to-energy plant and at the same time adopt a virtuous waste policy with door-to-door collection and a punctual pricing system (translated: you pay what you produce). This is what councilors Massimo Fresc, group leader of the Movimento 5 Stelle, and Francesco Comotto, group leader of Viviamo Ivrea ask, in a motion that will be presented to the municipal assembly on Tuesday 21 December.

A concern expressed both for reasons of solidarity with a neighboring area, but also by virtue of the very proximity to the area chosen by A2A Ambiente. “The Valledora site – Comotto and Fresce write in the motion – is located at a distance of less than 20 kilometers from the city of Ivrea and most of the Ivrea is included in the area affected by the propagation of fumes from a plant that includes a pipe 90 meters high chimney with a flow of fumes soaked in carcinogenic and toxic substances such as dioxin, affecting an area up to a 30 km radius without considering the extension of distances caused by winds and natural currents. The project represents a threat to the health of the communities of the Eporediese because it would worsen the quality of the air, water and soil which are already in critical conditions today ».

The councilors ask the council to oppose the plant, representing it to the higher bodies in the decision. They also invoke the ability to activate wide area policies, as leader, avoiding decisions on residents from above. More important still, however, is the commitment “to adopt the necessary measures to promote the reduction of urban waste, the door-to-door separate collection, the activation of the punctual pricing system”. –
