by admin

An 80-year-old pensioner overwhelmed and killed by water. A partially collapsed house with the inhabitants forced to evacuate and then 4 missing hunters, another 5 saved by the helicopter and widespread inconvenience in all the other centers. The first toll of the wave of bad weather that hit southern Sardinia is heavy.

A victim

In Porto Pino, a hamlet of Sant’Anna Arresi, in south-western Sardinia, there is a victim. It is an 80-year-old retiree who had left the house in his car. According to an initial reconstruction it would have stopped due to bad weather. Once he got out of the car he was run over by the water. His car was later found overturned. His body was found by the Saf firefighters, the speleo-alpine-river nucleus who intervened as soon as the alarm went off. The man’s body, now lifeless, was found in the afternoon by specialists who inspected all the nearby canals.

Families in danger

Discomfort due to collapses in various centers. In Cagliari, due to heavy rain, a perimeter wall and railing collapsed in a very busy street. In Siliqua (on the border between the Cagliaritano and the Iglesiente) an elderly couple was evicted from the house due to the collapse of a part of the already damaged building. In Capoterra intervention of rescuers to give assistance to an entire family unit residing in the mountains of the town. The house remained isolated because the mud carried downstream almost canceled the connecting municipal road.

Rescued hunters

Until the afternoon there was no news of four hunters engaged in a hunt in the countryside of Sarroch (about twenty kilometers from Cagliari). In the area, searches have started to find them, fortunately with a positive outcome. Frantic day for rescue, as there are five other hunters recovered by helicopter while another was rescued in Sant’Anna Arresi.

A continuous discomfort

The inconveniences have not spared the other centers of Cagliari where collapses and floods and uncovered manholes have been recorded. And in some cases even blackouts. Not only that, due to the flooding of the tracks, the circulation of trains from Cagliari to Decimomannu was interrupted for a few hours. The rides have been replaced with buses.
