President Xiomara Castro Promotes Members of Armed Forces and Addresses Former President’s Conviction
Tegucigalpa, Honduras – President Xiomara Castro participated in a promotion ceremony for the Armed Forces, where several high-ranking officers were recognized for their dedication and service. The head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Roosevelt Hernández, was promoted to division general, along with five new brigadier generals, 27 colonels, 56 lieutenant colonels, and 58 seniors.
During her speech, President Castro emphasized the importance of trust and responsibility that comes with promotions in the Armed Forces. She commended the soldiers for their hard work and commitment to protecting the country.
In addition to the promotion ceremony, President Castro highlighted the achievements of the Armed Forces in environmental conservation. Over 65 thousand hectares of forest have been restored, and 10 million plants have been planted for reforestation efforts. Furthermore, an agreement with the European Union has provided just over 23 million euros in non-refundable funds for environmental projects, including the recovery of Lake Yojoa and studies of the Tablón dams.
President Castro also addressed her recent assumption of the pro tempore presidencies in the Central American Integration System (SICA) and the Community of Latin American States (CELAC). She outlined her commitment to promoting peace in the region, combating climate change, and defending the sovereignty of the people.
However, President Castro did not shy away from discussing the recent conviction of former President Juan Orlando Hernández. She condemned the failures in the justice system and its complicity in supporting a drug dictatorship. President Castro called for thorough investigations and trials for those involved in criminal activities during the previous administration.
As Honduras moves forward under President Castro’s leadership, the country remains focused on promoting accountability, justice, and sustainability for the benefit of its citizens.
