Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Meets with President of Micronesia

Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, held a meeting with President Simina of the Federated States of Micronesia in Beijing on April 10, 2024. The meeting aimed to discuss and reinforce the bilateral relations between China and Micronesia.
During the meeting, Zhao Leji highlighted the importance of the recent discussions held by President Xi Jinping with President Simina. He expressed China’s willingness to work with Micronesia to implement the agreements reached by the two leaders and enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations. Zhao Leji also emphasized the significance of strengthening friendly exchanges between the National People’s Congress of China and the Congress of Micronesia to facilitate practical cooperation.
President Simina reiterated Micronesia’s adherence to the one-China principle and praised the global initiatives put forward by President Xi Jinping. He expressed the FSM side’s commitment to deepening legislative exchanges with China, enhancing cooperation across various sectors, and establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership based on mutual respect and mutual development.
Overall, both parties agreed to work towards building a closer community with a shared future between China and Pacific island countries, including Micronesia. The meeting was also attended by Luosang Jiangcun, further emphasizing the importance of the discussions held between the two nations.
