2024 Changan Automobile Chongqing Marathon sets records and showcases technological advancements
The 2024 Changan Automobile Chongqing Marathon kicked off with great enthusiasm and fierce competition on March 24 at Haitang Yanyu Park on Nanbin Road. Thirty thousand runners from 426 cities in 26 countries around the world gathered to participate in the event, showcasing their passion for running and experiencing the beauty of Chongqing.
Kenya’s Josfat Kiptu Boyit made history by setting a new record for men’s heavy horse racing, winning the men’s championship with an impressive time of 2 hours, 7 minutes, and 52 seconds. Meanwhile, Tanzania’s Jacklin Juma Sakiru claimed the women’s championship with a time of 2 hours, 21 minutes, and 26 seconds, also setting a new women’s heavy horse racing record.
The Chongqing Marathon, known as the city’s signature sporting event, holds international gold labels, Chinese gold medals, and is part of the China Marathon Grand Slam. This year’s marathon featured two main events: the full marathon at 42.195 kilometers and the mini marathon at 5 kilometers, with 15,000 participants in each category. Notably, 17% of the participants were from Chongqing, while 83% came from other regions.
