(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 23 – “There is a need for modernization and restructuring of the football system. The federal statute appears strongly misaligned with the development and growth needs of national football which is faced with complex and significant ones that require clear, urgent and decisive interventions: legislators, sports managers and the entire football community must work in the same direction to face these challenges and guarantee a healthy and prosperous future for the entire Italian football system.

We must be responsible, but also courageous”. Thus Mauro Balata, president of the Lega Serie B, during a hearing on the prospects for the reform of Italian football in the Culture, Education and Sports Commission of the Senate. “The impact of international competitions is prejudicial will have on the national championships: the fact that worries us is that the impoverishment of domestic competitions could lead to a 50% decrease in internal resources. We have never been called to discuss this issue at federal level or elsewhere; we want to protect and defend Italian football”, he continues. Balata then underlines how we need to “adopt an incentive tax policy as happens in many parts of Europe: a tax credit that can fuel investments especially in infrastructure could be a sort of boomerang also positive for the State”. Finally, according to the number one of the Lega Serie B, we should “give greater space to Covisoc (the body responsible for carrying out financial controls on companies, ed.) to proceed towards the structuring of a system more autonomous and independent”.
