Uguak leads the way
At the start of the game, as in the first leg, the Niners struggled a bit, so the first leads were mostly in the hands of the guests. As time went on, the home team worked their way into the game, although the final result was still lacking. The first quarter ended 18:18. In the second quarter, the Chemnitz offensive slowly but surely warmed up. Led by the strong Aher Uguak, who had already sunk a total of five three-pointers by the break, the Niners quickly gained a comfortable lead and didn’t relinquish it afterwards. At halftime, coach Rodrigo Pastore’s team was ahead 44:38.
Aher Uguak became Chemnitz’s top scorer with 20 points.
Galactic towards the semi-finals
After returning to the floor, a fast-paced third quarter developed in which both teams played with their sights open. Three-pointer after three-pointer rang in the basket on both sides, with the Chemnitz team being significantly more effective overall in their attempts. At the end of what was probably one of the best thirds of the current season, the Niners scored 35 points and led comfortably 79:63. But from Chemnitz’s point of view, there was no question of stopping in the fourth quarter. Since the threesomes continued to sit, it even reached three figures in the end. The final score of this memorable quarter-final second leg was 102:86 – meaning safe passage into the first ever European semi-final.
Outlook for the semi-finals
In the round of the last four, the Niners will face Surne Bilbao Basket. The Spaniards beat Legia Warsaw in the quarter-finals despite losing the first leg. The first leg will take place on March 27th in Bilbao, and a week later there will be the final showdown for the final in Chemnitz.
