Billie Jean Gold Cup International Women’s Tennis Team Seiya Regional Competition: Chinese Team Led by Zheng Qinwen Secures Back-to-Back Victories

The 2024 Billie Jean Gold Cup International Women’s Tennis Team Seiya Region Group Competition took place at Changsha Moon Island Clay Tennis Park yesterday. In a thrilling second-round match, the Chinese Women’s Tennis Team, led by top player Zheng Qinwen, triumphed over the Indian team with a score of 6-0. Securing two singles and one doubles victory, China emerged victorious in two consecutive games.
Known as the World Cup of women’s tennis, the Billie Jean Gold Cup Tennis Tournament was previously named the Fed Cup by the International Tennis Federation. The Chinese women’s tennis team, currently positioned in the first group of the Asia-Pacific region, participated in the competition alongside teams from China, Chinese Taipei, India, South Korea, New Zealand, and Pacific Oceania. Comprising players such as Zheng Qinwen, Zhu Lin, Wang Xinyu, Wang Xiyu, and Guo Hanyu, the Chinese team aims to advance to the World Group play-offs by finishing in the top two on-site.
Following their 2-1 victory over the Chinese Taipei team on the first day, the Chinese team faced the Indian team in the second round. Wang Xinyu set the tone for the team by defeating Indian player Sahaja Yamalapali with a score of 6-2, 6-3. In the subsequent singles match, Zheng Qinwen showcased her prowess against Indian player Ankita Raina, securing a 6-0, 6-0 victory. The duo of Wang Xiyu and Guo Hanyu then clinched the doubles match with a score of 6-1, resulting in a 3-0 win for the Chinese team.
The tournament attracted numerous tennis fans to Changsha, with players like Zheng Qinwen, Wang Xinyu, Wang Xiyu, and Guo Hanyu becoming fan favorites. Zheng Qinwen’s parents, adorned in Chinese team attire, cheered on their daughter from the stands, adding to the electric atmosphere. Zheng Qinwen’s stellar performance in the tournament, including three 6-0 victories, has garnered widespread acclaim.
Reflecting on the team’s success on clay courts, Zheng Qinwen emphasized the importance of continued training and preparation for future competitions.
