Blatter and Platini acquitted of corruption, fraud and fraud charges against Fifa. Le Roi: “The real culprits weren’t in the courtroom”

Former FIFA president Joseph Blatter and former UEFA president Michel Platini were acquitted on Friday by the Swiss Federal Criminal Court in a FIFA fraud trial. The two former senior officials had been accused by federal prosecutors of fraud against FIFA in relation to the payment of 2 million Swiss francs (approximately 2 million euros) that Platini had received from FIFA in 2011 for the work done by FIFA as a consultant between 1998 and 2002. The 86-year-old Swiss Blatter chaired the governing body of world football from 1998 to 2015.
“I expect nothing more than an acquittal. I am not innocent in my life, but in this case I am innocent, ”Blatter said before entering the Bellinzona court. Platini, 67, said in a statement released by his lawyer that “my fight is a fight against injustice. I won a first game ». “The truth came to light in this trial,” he said, vowing that “we will meet again” as he would “go all the way in my search for the truth” because “there are culprits who did not appear during this trial.”
Le Roi’s reaction
After his acquittal from the accusation of fraud against FIFA, Michel Platini in a press release stressed that he had “won a first game” and that he intends to continue his “fight against injustice”. And he added that in the case handled by the Federal Court of Bellinzona “there are the culprits who did not appear during the trial. Count on me, we will meet again ». “Believe me, it is very difficult to pass the age of 65 in pariah status, especially when all this falls on you in a totally unfair way,” he concluded.
