CAGLIARI. Iconstruction starts in 2023, opening of the stadium in the 2025/26 season. Beyond the formula studied by president Tommaso Giulini, what the fans have marked is the time schedule marked in yesterday’s press conference at Unipol Domus. Sportium had won the tender for the best project: 24 thousand seats which could become 30 thousand. But then, from 2018, everything ran aground between financial difficulties and bureaucracy.

Now the turning point. «We have signed a fundamental agreement with Costim – says Giulini -. Together we will capitalize on the “stadium vehicle”, let’s call it that for simplicity, which will also receive the bank debt and the public contribution and which hopefully will build the stadium ». Plant which, incidentally, which after 50 years will return to the Municipality. The figures. “The cost of the stadium has soared as material costs have risen. We are about 125 million – underlines Giulini -. About half of these will be invested by Cagliari Calcio and Costim to the extent of 60 and 40 percent ».

Public funds. The public part, on the other hand, will disburse 30 million, which will come from the Region, as confirmed by the councilor for finance, Giuseppe Fasolino, and about 18 million from the Municipality, which will be the body that will channel all public money. «The law on stadiums – said Truzzu – provides that the public hand reaches up to 49 per 100. And the Municipality will not hold back if to guarantee the financial balance it will be necessary to find other funds to carry out the work. For us the stadium is essential to redevelop the whole area ».

The partner. Costim is a Bergamo-based company in the construction and plant management sector. It is presided over by Francesco Percassi, grandson of Antonio, president of Atalanta. «For us – remarked the owner of Costim – this project is absolutely exceptional. And we are happy to be able to participate in this adventure, also because the prestige of Cagliari Calcio is great both in Italy and in the international field ».

Times. The final project with the costs of the work will be presented to the Municipality within two months. Project that will then be examined by the leaders of the town hall. After 6 months, the transition to the Provincial Commission which will have to give the definitive go-ahead. At that point the Municipality will announce the integrated tender, which also includes the demolition of the old stadium. After 3 months, the choice and start of work for about 25 months.
