Chain repechage among amateurs

The composition of the regional championships has been made official. The mini-revolution planned by the Sardinian FIGC is underway

CAGLIARI. Regional amateur leagues are almost revolutionized, the ones that will start in September. The most important innovations concern in particular the Promotion and First category championships, completely restructured compared to last season. Promotion: 42 teams divided into three groups of 14. First category: five groups, always made up of 14 clubs, for a total of 70 in total. The number of participants in the tournament of Excellence increased from 17 to 18, a novelty also in the Second category, which saw the number of registered associations reduced from 106 to 98, while the groups still remain eight (six from 12 and two from 13).

But how did this sort of revolution come about? The triggering cause is Covid 19, far from eradicated, and which is continuing to cause problems in various centers on the island. The Board of Directors of the FIGC Sardinia, in order to minimize inconvenience and try to meet all associations as much as possible, has decided to completely change the register in amateur football tournaments. In this way, the duration of the championships will be significantly reduced, and if there are restrictions or total closures due to a health emergency in the countries affected by the epidemic, there may be a greater number of Sundays available for the recovery of any races not played.

For the composition of the staff of the various championships, it was necessary to resort to various repechage, in which three factors were mainly taken into consideration. The ranking of the 2019/2020 season (completed in March), the ranking of the teams that had made a specific application, and the federal seniority.

As a result of this, Villacidrese rose to Excellence, while seven teams made the leap from the First category to the Promotion: Atletico Narcao, Tempio, Ozierese, Fermassenti San Giovanni Suergiu, Samugheo, Sadali and Quartu 2000. Five instead First category from the second: Ittiri Sprint, Cardedu, Monte Alma Nulvi, Tuttavista Galtellì, Verde Isola Carloforte. No repechage from the Third to the Second. The latest news concerns the Italian Promotion Cup which, at the request of the clubs that should have taken part, will not be held at least for this edition. The 2019/2020 final will be played on Sunday 19 September, skipped due to a pandemic, between Macomerese and Usinese. In which field is still to be determined, after agreements made by the two companies in question.
