China Basketball Hall of Fame Welcomes Eight New Members
On February 5, 2024, the 2023 China Basketball Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held in Yan’an City, Shaanxi Province, welcoming eight new inductees. Among them are three outstanding male athletes, three outstanding female athletes, two outstanding coaches, and one special contributor. Additionally, the Chinese women’s basketball team from the 1992 Olympic Games also received recognition as an outstanding group.
The male athletes being honored include Huang Baoling, the first-generation national basketball player in China, as well as Zhang Weiping and Kuang Lubin, who represented China in various international competitions and are considered iconic figures in Chinese men’s basketball.
On the female side, Li Shihua, Liu Qing, and Li Xin have been recognized for their contributions to the Chinese women’s basketball team, with each representing different generations of players. The outstanding coaches, Liu Guiyi and Chen Daohong, have both made significant impacts on the development of Chinese basketball.
Special recognition was given to Gong Peishan for his commitment to promoting the development of Chinese university basketball through the China University Basketball Association (CUBA).
The Chinese women’s basketball team from the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, which won the silver medal, was honored as an outstanding group. Their remarkable journey, including a historic victory over the Cuban team in the semifinals, was highlighted as one of the most impressive moments in the history of Chinese women’s basketball.
Last year, nine athletes and coaches were inducted into the China Basketball Hall of Fame, and with the addition of the eight new members, the hall now consists of a total of 17 outstanding athletes and coaches.
In celebration of their athletic achievements, the 2023 China Basketball Hall of Fame induction ceremony was a proud moment for the basketball community, recognizing the contributions of these exceptional individuals to the sport.
