PORDENONE. On the occasion of the Azzurrini’s meeting, the technical commissioner Paolo Nicolato was clear: «The situation of our young players is worrying, they play little».
A situation that occurs cyclically in Italian football, so much so that the coach added: «There are no strikers. If we continue like this, we will have to find natives or draw from the Serie C ».
The statements are matched by the actions, if it is true that in attack he called up the Pordenone striker – last in Serie B – Nicolò Cambiaghi. And, on his first call-up, the green-and-black is a candidate to play from the 1st Friday, when Italy will challenge Montenegro in Podgorica (at 18.30), a match valid for qualifying for the European championships in the category.
In the last period Nicolato has closely followed the Friulian footballer. He observed him live both with Vicenza and with Pisa, being struck by his talents. Subsequently the winger exploded in the realization phase, scoring three goals in a row in the matches against Como, Cremonese and Brescia.
The coach commented on his call as follows: “The goals of the national team are revolving, he is a boy who can play his chances – he said -. He has shown continuity, he is physically well, he is on a par with the others even though he plays in Serie B and in a team in difficulty. I’m happy to have him in a group ».
The feeling is that, if not already on Friday, Cambiaghi can take the field from the start in the match against Bosnia, scheduled for Tuesday 29th at 5.30 pm in Trieste (tickets already available from Tuesday 22nd).
On the other hand, the attacker is in great shape and, despite being on his debut with the Azzurrini shirt, it makes sense to bet on him. By the way, it is fair to point out that he plays in a last line-up in Serie B, but at the same time it should be remembered that he was the captain of the Atalanta Primavera, with which he had also won the league title.
An element therefore with a past at a youth level of absolute depth and which, season after season, is proving its value. After all, the current one is only his second year among seniors after the tournament in Serie B with Reggiana.
Nicolato, denouncing the scarce employment of young people, then added: «In attack practically no one plays anymore. Europe is teaching us many things, we must have humility and eyes. I’m worried”.
Together with Cambiaghi in the offensive department they were called from Serie A Cancellieri (Verona), Vignato (Bologna) and Yeboah (Genoa), from B Lucca (Pisa), Gaetano (Cremonese) and Colombo (Spal). The first three played just over 1000 minutes combined. And only Cancellieri scored a goal.
Meanwhile, on Thursday another neroverde, Christian Dalle Mura, is busy with the under 20 national team: the defender will play in Ascoli with Germany for the 8 nations tournament.
Final note: the draw with Pordenone will be fatal to Filippo Inzaghi: the coach is about to be sacked by Brescia. In place of him Eugenio Corini.
