Countdown to F1 Chinese Grand Prix, Shanghai International Circuit returns with new features

From April 19th to 21st, the 2024 FORMULA 1 (F1) Chinese Grand Prix will kick off at the Shanghai International Circuit. The event organizer has announced that the circuit is fully prepared and excited to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the F1 Chinese Grand Prix with fans from all over the world.

To welcome the return of the event, the Shanghai International Circuit has undergone various upgrades since 2022. These include venue repairs, track surface maintenance, relocation of the television broadcast area, and software and hardware upgrades. The circuit has recently received a new round of FIA Level 1 track certification after completing these tasks. In a groundbreaking move, the venue used a combination of precision milling, grinding, shot blasting, and sealing techniques supported by digital control during the renovation process. This innovative approach, which utilized mechanical equipment and digital 3D technology, is the first of its kind among F1 circuits worldwide. The FIA track prosecutor will conduct a final inspection before the F1 competition begins.

In terms of fan amenities, construction on the B and E grandstands at the Shanghai International Circuit began in July 2022. The main structure was completed in January, with the B grandstand seats fully laid by mid-March. The next steps include railing installation, outdoor venue renovation, temporary security monitoring, and temporary sound broadcasting before the race. The B and E stands will have a combined seating capacity of over 22,000 and are set to be finished by November this year. Race enthusiasts will have the opportunity to witness exciting moments like overtaking, collisions, and cars exiting the pit exit up close from Turns 1 to 4 and Turns 11 to 13.

Fans and participants alike are eagerly anticipating the start of the F1 Chinese Grand Prix at the revamped Shanghai International Circuit this April.
