Cruz Azul played its third preseason match before the start of the Closing 2024 competition and secured a victory with a 4-1 win against Querétaro at The Ferris Wheel.
However, there was confusion regarding the goal scorers as initial reports suggested that Angel Sepúlveda had contributed a goal. The match was not broadcast on television or social media, leading to uncertainty about the players who found the back of the net.
Cruz Azul swiftly cleared up the confusion by publishing the exact scoreboard with the names of the scorers. It was revealed that Gabriel Fernandez, Mauro Zaleta, Matthew Levy, and Bryan Gamboa were the players who scored in the 4-1 victory against Querétaro, with the only goal for Gallos scored by Gerardo Gil.
Notably, Gabriel “Tour” Fernández opened the scoring with his goal, marking his second goal as a Cruz Azul player. He had previously scored in the team’s second friendly match against Atlante.
Cruz Azul’s preseason campaign has also seen victories in their previous matches. In the first preparation game, Angel Sepúlveda stood out with a double in a 3-1 win against the U-23 team. Under the leadership of Argentine coach Martin Anselmi, Cruz Azul also secured a 3-0 victory against Atlante with goals from Uriel Antuna, Willer Ditta, and Gabriel “Tour” Fernández.
The preseason matches have provided an opportunity for new reinforcements to gain valuable match experience, as the team prepares for the upcoming competitions.
