FLORENCE. Three indictments as part of the investigation line that hypothesizes the crime of forgery in relation to a medical certificate in the investigation into the death of Davide Astori, the Fiorentina captain found lifeless on March 4, 2018 in his hotel room in Udine. Professor Giorgio Galanti, as director of Sports Medicine of the Aou di Careggi, the sports doctor Loira Toncelli and Pietro Amedeo Modesti, who succeeded Galanti in the post and accused of destroying a true act, go to trial for forgery. Also for the death of the football player in May 2021 Galanti was sentenced to 1 year in prison for manslaughter.
The accusation relates to the alleged falsification of a medical certificate for an examination that the player would never have actually undergone. Loira Toncelli, Galanti’s collaborator, allegedly falsified the certificate relating to the ‘strain’, an in-depth examination performed to observe the responses of the heart muscle. “I am convinced – says the defender of Galanti, lawyer Siegfried Fenyes – of the absolute criminal irrelevance of the fact, the investigating judge deemed it necessary to deepen the matter in the hearing, and we will face it with our reasons”. The first hearing of the trial is set for December 16, 2022.
