ARD will offer a complete package for UEFA EURO 2024. The first relies on well-known experts, as well as proven faces in moderation and commentary.
From June 14th to July 14th, 2024, ARD will broadcast all European Championship games in full length, 17 of which will also be shown on the first and all of them can be heard in the full audio report.
Share in moderation Esther Sedlaczek and Alexander Bommes the games on. They each have a tried and tested regular member of the ARD team of experts at their side. This consists of the world champion, Champions League winner and eight-time German champion Bastian Schweinsteigerfrom the European champion, Champions League winner and six-time German champion Almuth Schultout of Thomas Hitzlsperger (German champion in 2007, third in the world championships in 2006, vice-European champion in 2008) and the tactics expert Thomas Broich, who was voted Australia’s Footballer of the Decade in 2014. They will comment together Christina Graf, Tom Bartels and Gerd Gottlob.
When the lights go out in the stadiums on the day of the ARD broadcast, things are just getting started in the Bochum pub “Zum Kuhhirten”: from 11.30 p.m. the “Sportschau EM pub quiz” with a quiz master will be shown live on Erste Stephanie Müller-Spiraby Sidekick Malte Völz (Comedian) and football expert Arnd Zeigler (“Zeigler’s wonderful world of football”) is supported.
All games to listen to and get excited about
For the first time, there will be full audio reports of all games, exclusively on ARD’s digital distribution channels: in the audio library, on sportschau.de, in the web channels of the state broadcasters and in the Sportschau app. There will also be live reports of the games on linear radio, with broadcasts during the current program and on the information waves, especially in the evening hours, as full reports.
Karl Valks, ARD team boss at EURO 2024, and sports director of WDR, said at the presentation of the team and program: “Whether on television or radio, on sportschau.de or in the Sportschau app, in the ARD media or in the audio library, on TikTok, Instagram or YouTube: We accompany people in Germany through the entire European Championship and take them there directly where it’s about victory or defeat, emotions run high and football tells its very special stories. The following applies to all reporting: we are as live as possible, as close as possible, as cross-media and smart as possible “We’re taking completely new paths.”
From the DFB headquarters on all channels
At the German national team’s headquarters, ARD has a cross-media team on site that provides contributions to all broadcast channels. Among other things, with a sports show presenter Lea Wagnerwhich will also take over the player interviews during the broadcasts of the German games on Erste.
