The Palermo City Football Academy, the sports center owned by Palermo and built by the City Football Group based on a design by the Mazzarella studio, was inaugurated in Torretta.
The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by, among others, the councilor of the City Football Group and Palermo Alberto Galassi, the managing director of the entire group that owns the Rosanero club and other clubs around the world Brian Marwood, the Rosanero president Dario Mirri and the CEO of Palermo Giovanni Gardini. Among the guests of the inaugural ceremony were the president of the FIGC Gabriele Gravina, the CEO of the Serie A league Luigi De Siervo, the president of the Sicilian Region Renato Schifani and the mayor of Palermo Roberto Lagalla.
While the ribbon cutting was celebrated in Torretta, at the Barbera stadium, in front of the packed covered grandstand, the Rosanero legends paraded on the grass and will play a friendly match in the new sports center in the afternoon.
Palermo CFA consists of two natural grass pitches of the same size as the Barbera pitch, a smaller natural grass pitch for goalkeeper training, a main body with offices, changing rooms, gym and press room and a club house.
The sports center is located on an area purchased by the club which was an olive grove, the club has preserved the plants by relocating over 400 trees and planting new plants typical of the Mediterranean scrub for a total of 30 thousand square meters of green areas. A few meters from the clubhouse kitchen, a social garden has been created which will host social educational activities in collaboration with local charities, in line with the community projects promoted and supported by the ownership of the City Football Group around the world.
