The 2024 National Swimming Championships continued at the Shenzhen Universiade Center Natatorium on April 23, with five gold medals being decided on the fifth competition day. Among the standout performances, Yang Junxuan set a new national record in the women’s 100-meter freestyle, while Qin Haiyang and Pan Zhanle claimed gold in their respective events.

In the women’s 100-meter freestyle final, Yang Junxuan made headlines by swimming a record-breaking time of 52.68 seconds, surpassing the previous national record held by Zhang Yufei. This marked the first time Yang had broken the 53-second mark in this event, with Wu Qingfeng and Cheng Yujie taking second and third place respectively.

Meanwhile, Niu Guangsheng impressed in the men’s 200-meter butterfly final, winning gold with a time of 1 minute and 55 seconds. The victory also saw him reach the Olympic A standard, with Xu Fang and Wang Xizhe securing the runner-up and third place positions.

In the women’s 1,500-meter freestyle, Gao Weizhong clinched gold with a time of 16 minutes and 6 seconds, becoming the second athlete after Li Bingjie to reach the Olympic A standard. Ma Yonghui and Mao Yihan claimed second and third place respectively.

The men’s 200-meter breaststroke final saw Qin Haiyang dominate the competition, securing the championship with a time of 2 minutes and 8 seconds. Dong Zhihao and Yu Zongda took home the silver and bronze medals.

The evening concluded with the men’s 100m freestyle final, where Pan Zhanle emerged victorious with a time of 46.97 seconds. Wang Haoyu and Ji Xinjie rounded out the podium with silver and bronze medals.
