Alberth Elis Makes Emotional Return to Matmut Atlantique Stadium
More than two months after suffering a skull fracture on the field, Alberth Elis made an emotional return to the Matmut Atlantique stadium, home of the Girondins de Bordeaux. The Honduran forward was injured during a match against Guingamp in February, where he had to be placed in a induced coma due to the severity of the impact.
Despite the setbacks, Elis fought hard to recover from the brutal blow to his face and showed signs of improvement. On Saturday, April 13, he returned to the stadium to support his team in their match against Bastia for Ligue 2. The fans welcomed him with cheers and applause as he took to the field before the game.
Unfortunately, Bordeaux suffered a painful 2-3 defeat against Bastia, pushing them further away from the playoff positions for promotion to Ligue 1. Currently in 13th position with 41 points, the team is facing a tough battle to secure their spot in the league championship.
While Elis may have returned to the stadium, his presence alone was not enough to secure a victory for the team. With only 18 points left to play for in the season, Bordeaux will need to regroup and push harder in their remaining matches to avoid relegation and secure a place in the playoff positions. Fans will be hoping that Elis’ return will inspire the team to give their all in the remaining games of the season.
