There are those who claim that it represents a record, but even if it were not it would still be something exceptional: a sealed videotape of the film ‘Back to the Future’ it was sold at auction for 75 thousand dollars. It belonged to actor Tom Wilson, who in the trilogy directed by Robert Zemeckis plays Biff Tannen, the antagonist of Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox).
The sale took place during an auction organized in Texas by Heritage Auctions and dedicated to VHS from the seventies and eighties. A golden opportunity for collectors, who are nurturing a small boom in interest around videotapes, especially if they are first editions of successful films and preserved in their original packaging.
The one of ‘Back to the future’ (1985) was auctioned together with a note signed by the actor Tom Wilson. It reads “This is the VHS of the first edition of ‘Back to the Future’, sent to me at the time by the production studio. As I thought videotape players would be around forever, I kept it to rewatch the film in a second moment. And now I can’t find a reader that is one. Well. Have fun! “.
