Infinite Storm, the plot
The film directed by Malgorzata Szumowska and Michael Englert and written by Joshua Rollins is the adaptation of a true story, the one about nurse Pam Bales.
The filming was not carried out on Mount Washington, where the weather conditions are often prohibitive, with winds of 200 km/h: the crew worked in Sloveniaand Kamnik ea Lubiana.
Pam is a hiking and mountaineering enthusiast and gears up to tackle Mount Washington, New Hampshire. Behind her has a very heavy trauma, the loss of her two daughters in an accident caused by a gas leak. Climbing is a way to focus on something else, forget, face ghosts, cancel yourself out.
The weather forecast is bad but Pam she leaves anyway: at a certain point, however, a storm arrives which forces her to turn back; on the road he will find another hiker, collapsed in terrible conditions.
Then begins a very difficult descent, made worse by the fact that the man does not reveal his name (she calls him John) or why he was there in city clothes and without precautions.
Only some time after Pam will I discover it dramatic history of man; in the meantime the company has changed a lot in their lives, putting them both back on track.

Infinite storm, true story
The plot of Infinite storm it is based on a true story, which has been told for the first time in 2020 by journalist Ty Gagne in the pages of the New Hampshire Union Leader. The article, entitled High Places: Footprints in the Snow Lead to an Emotional Rescuetalks about Pam’s physical and spiritual adventure, made more plastic by the mountain environment in which it took place.
This story it comes from a letter that the journalist had received from Johnthe mysterious character met by Pam on the path of descent and renamed with a generic name, who explains how Pam saved him in the darkest moment of his life: he was about to commit suicide (the author of the letter himself wants to remain anonymous for understandable reasons).

On Sunday 17 October I embarked on my climb to commit suicide. But they saved me. The whole time, she was with me and was able to be compassionate, authoritative and empathetic: she was worrying about me. With all the things that had gone wrong in my life, I wasn’t taking care of myself anymore but she was. She probably thought I was the stupidest hiker she’d met in her life but she never belittled me or made fun of me, she was always kind. Maybe I wasn’t destined to die yet: somehow, my life still mattered
