América de Cali Parts Ways with Coach Lucas González
América de Cali announced on the night of Monday, January 15th, that coach Lucas González will not continue as coach for the first semester of the 2024 League. The Bogotá coach lasted a little more than six months at the helm of the scarlet team.
In an official statement, the scarlet team bid farewell to Lucas González and his coaching staff, which includes Alexis Henríquez, Tiago Pina, and Carlos Tabares. The statement expressed gratitude for their professionalism and wished them success in their future projects.
González arrived at América de Cali last June and directed the team for a semester. Despite a rocky start, he managed to steer the team in the right direction and qualified them for the final home runs. However, they were the first team eliminated, missing out on the chance to compete for their 16th star.
During his time as the technical director of América de Cali, González oversaw 28 games in the BetPlay League and the Colombia Cup, winning 11, tying 7, and losing 10.
The unexpected decision to part ways with González, especially with the BetPlay League season set to kick off in five days, has surprised fans and the public. The details of his departure remain unknown. González’s final match as coach was a friendly against Cerro Porteño, marking the end of his tenure with the scarlet team.
