Coach Maranesi’s team starts badly, then grows and beats Savigliano away, thus interrupting the black series
CAVALLERMAGGIORE (Cn)
After thirty-seven days and five defeats in a row, Garlasco returns to win by conquering the Monge Gerbaudo Savigliano field at the tie break. These are two important points and, at a certain moment, unexpected for how badly the team of coach Maranesi had started the match who, from the second set onwards, found themselves recovering and also harboring some regrets for a partial quarter in which, with greater attention, it could have been won even with a full three-point loot.
A complicated start
Savigliano’s block and serve work better at the start, Lomelline forcing facilitates the first local sprint and on the 9-6 coach Marco Maranesi immediately asks for time not to let his opponents run away but with two winning services from Dutto doubling Garlasco (12- 6). On the attacks outside Magalini and Puliti (15-9) the game is decidedly uphill for the men of Maranesi. Magalini reduces the gap with a ball on the ground in the three meters (16-13), but it is with the wall that Savigliano starts again, then Bosio beats the lomellino one (18-13). Garlasco’s covers do not work, he messes too much, Maranesi runs out of suspensions at 21-14, then everyone watches the palombella serving Dutto softly die in the corner confirming the absolute blackout of Volley 2001 (22-14). With a pinch of pride on Puliti’s turn at bat, Garlasco recovers something, but does not avoid the negative epilogue (25-19) of a first set for very embarrassing stretches.
It starts again and the Savigliano wall prints Magalini for the umpteenth time, then Taramelli breaks the reception and is immediately 3-0, then on the Galaverna laser pipe it is inevitable time out at 5-1 for coach Maranesi. By correcting two referee calls at the video check, Garlasco goes back (8-6) and with Puliti’s ace to -1 (12-11). Savigliano loses certainty, takes refuge in time out at 14-15, Coali on the wall says 14-16, but it is still a tie when Magalini goes wide (16-16). The tape rewards Di Noia on the ace of 19-21, disputes at 21-22 for an adverse referee call, but two splendid pipes from Puliti and the winning mani out by Magalini (22-25) equalize the set count. Against the wall Garlasco starts again well (1-3), the lomellini play better and find the 3-6 with Puliti and with Magalini they run away 2-7. Savigliano misses a couple of attacks in the center (4-9), Magalini’s diagonal and Puliti’s ace make 7-13. Garlasco holds up well the ball change and with Puliti pushes up to 12-18. He is second local time out at 15-22, but Garlasco is not distracted and seals both 22-25 and, at least so far, a point in the standings. Exhausting balance for a good part of the fourth set (12-12), then the attacking errors of Puliti and Magalini (17-14) weigh and Maranesi runs out of suspensions at 19-15, but by now the light has gone out (22-16) ) and despite two aces by Magalini it goes to the tie break (25-21).
In the decisive period, there is a competition to see who makes the most mistakes and Garlasco changes the field forward 6-8, then twice in a row he scores the wall of Puliti and Porcello (6-10), Savigliano comes back under (11-12), then it is Puliti who puts down the 11-14 ball and in the second match ball a Magalini torpedo – which in the end scores 36 points – breaks the wall and puts an end to the long fast of the lomellini. –
