The blue of the Paralympic swimming Monica Boggioni has joined the sports group of the Fiamme Oro.

The twenty-three year old from Pavia who will leave next Wednesday for Ostia in the process of approaching the Paralympics has thus a double membership, civil with Aics Pavia Nuoto and military with the Fiamme Oro. The debut with the military corps jersey was at the Italian Paralympic swimming championships, where Monica won two gold medals in the 200 medley and in the 200 style and one silver in the 100 breaststroke.

Monica, are you happy and proud to be part of the Fiamme Oro?

“Very very much. In Naples for the first time I was officially wearing the Fiamme Oro jersey. I started making arrangements with them in February while for the debut with the new jersey we decided to wait for the first important match, the Italian championships. It is a source of pride to be able to represent such an important military body, it is certainly a pleasure but also a great responsibility that I am happy to take on. Among other things, it is also important in the perspective that next year the law that equates the athletes of the Paralympic military corps with the Olympic ones will be passed ”.

Are you satisfied with the results obtained at the Italian championships?

«Yes, because beyond the medals it was the times that confirmed that I am growing. I won the 200 medley with the new staff, even if speaking with my coach we saw that we can improve by working on the details. In the 200 style the victory came with a time close to my personal one. In the 100 breaststroke I finished second with a good time, which can improve. It was the last stop before starting the march to Japan. It was important to participate in these championships, because together with my coach we tried the various races, the management of the preparation and the sensations. It was a test to evaluate the state of form and I must say that I am quite satisfied, especially obviously in the mixed, although all three races have been studied to work in training in the next few days ».

The officialization of the swimmers who will go to Tokeyo also took place in Naples.

“It was exciting, although of course I already knew it. At the end of the competitions the team that will go to the Paralympics was made official and they gave me the ticket that shows the date of the pre-Olympic collegiate meeting in Ostia (25 – 31 July), the departure for Sendai where the adaptation period is scheduled (11 August – 21 August) and the transfer to Tokyo for competitions (24 August – 5 September) ».

Excited?

«A little bit yes, I admit it, also because I see the departure date getting closer and closer and basically there are only 40 days to go until the races. Having the ticket to Tokyo officially in my hand and wearing the Fiamme Oro jersey charges me with responsibility. However, I am very happy because it is getting closer and closer to the moment to realize the dream of my life ».

At this stage of the preparation what needs to be done? «The final one is perhaps the most important phase because we need to concentrate and work on the details to get to Japan in the best possible shape. It is an important milestone for which I have trained for many years and which is the result of a shared work with my coach, my family who has always supported me, my club which has always been close to me and the managers of the Faustina swimming pool. di Lodi who allowed me to train even in the most difficult moments ». –
