Few characters in the ‘Star Wars’ narrative universe have the charm of the Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ewan McGregor has shown he can masterfully portray him throughout the prequel film trilogy, without making Alec Guinness (who played him in the 1977 film). Now McGregor is ready to draw his lightsaber again thanks to the miniserie’Obi-Wan Kenobi’which will be released in streaming on Disney + on May 27, 2022. The official trailer has just been released online.

The show was originally scheduled for release on May 25, marking the 45th anniversary of the theatrical debut of ‘Star Wars’ (1977). Then it was decided to move the date and set it to 27, two days later. The plot begins ten years after the events recounted in ‘Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’the last chapter of the prequel trilogy, written and directed by George Lucas.

Moses Ingram plays her (seen in ‘The Chess Queen’), while the cast is announced the return of other faces seen in the prequel trilogy of ‘Star Wars’: above all that of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader.

At first, the Lucasfilm production company wanted ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ to be a film for the big screen. Then it was decided to turn it into one miniseries in six episodes, designed directly for streaming distribution. It was to take care of the screenplay Joby Harold, previously author of the films ‘Awake – Conscious Anesthesia’, ‘King Arthur – The Power of the Sword’ and ‘Army of the Dead’. The direction instead bears the signature of Deborah Chow, who has already haunted the “galaxy far, far away” directing two episodes of ‘The Mandalorian’ and also has titles like ‘American Gods’,’ Better Call Saul ‘and’ Mr. Robot’.
