The Kalush Orchestra today released the video of the winning song ‘Stefania‘, which was shot in Borodyanka, Irpin, Bucha and Gostomel, the Ukrainian cities battered by the occupation of Russian forces. The video was posted on the band’s YouTube channel. “Our culture is alive and we are here to prove it,” said Oleg Psiuk after his victory at the Eurovision Song Contest. “At this moment any success of Ukraine has an important significance.”

Precisely due to the international significance of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 which had an audience of 200 million people, the Kalush Orchestra did not hesitate to launch, at the end of their performance, a message in which they invited to help Ukraine and, in particular, Mariupol and the Azvostal steel mill, despite the strict EBU protocol which prohibited any political declaration.

“I would not have hesitated to pay the price of disqualification – added Psiuk -. There are Ukrainians trapped inside the Azvostal steel plant that must be released and for this reason we must let people know what is happening and put pressure on the politicians”, stressed Psiuk who, however, it was not sanctioned by the organization which considered that of the Kalushes a “humanitarian” and not a political message.
