San Diego Open: Katie Boulter beats Beatriz Haddad Maia to reach quarter-finals

Britain’s Katie Boulter beat Beatriz Haddad Maia at the San Diego Open to reach her first WTA 500 quarter-final.

Boulter lost 11 points in a row as the Brazilian second seed took the first set but recovered to win the second-round match 3-6 6-3 6-4.

She will play Croatia’s Donna Vekic, runner-up in 2022, or Canada’s Marina Stakusic in the last eight on Friday.

British number three Jack Draper beat Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka 6-3 6-0 in the Mexican Open second round.

Draper, who overcame seventh seed Tommy Paul in the first round, will face Serb Miomir Kecmanovic – ranked three places below him at 53 in the world – in Friday’s quarter-finals.
