Snooker World Open: Ding Junhui, O’Sullivan Advance

Xinhua News Agency, Yushan, Jiangxi – The 2024 Snooker World Open kicked off with a bang on March 19th as two of the game’s biggest stars, Ding Junhui and Ronnie O’Sullivan, secured victories in the first round.

In a thrilling afternoon session, Ding Junhui overcame a tough challenge from Liu Hongyu to advance to the next round. Despite falling behind early on, Ding Junhui rallied to win four consecutive games and ultimately clinched victory with a score of 5-3, finishing the match with an impressive 123-point break.

Meanwhile, in the evening session, O’Sullivan put on a masterclass performance against Michael White. The five-time World Champion dominated the match early on, scoring back-to-back centuries to take a 3-1 lead. Although White fought back to level the score, O’Sullivan regrouped and sealed the win with a final score of 5-3.

However, it was not all smooth sailing for all players on the first day of the tournament. John Higgins, a member of the “Three Heroes of 75”, fell short against Jackson Page, while Zhang Anda, the reigning National Championships champion, was defeated by Elliott Slesser.

Looking ahead to the next round, Ding Junhui is set to face off against Cao Yupeng in a highly anticipated “Chinese Derby”, while O’Sullivan will take on Lu Haotian, who narrowly defeated Aaron Hill to secure his spot in the second round.

The excitement continues to build as the top 32 players gear up for the next round of the Snooker World Open on March 20th. Stay tuned for more thrilling matches and fierce competition as the tournament unfolds.
