Thanks Rome, together with Rome Rome Rome, the most beautiful anthem ever written for a football team, was composed by Venditti in 1983 to celebrate the second Giallorossi championship. Almost 40 years later it can be sung in a version dedicated to Josè Mourinho, the coach who brought a European Cup back to Italy after 12 years and on the Roma showcase 61 years after the Coppa delle Fiere.

That old trophy no longer exists. This Conference League, on the other hand, has just been born and Roma are the first club to raise it to the skies. A long, fantastic Giallorossi party lived in two stadiums, that of Tirana and the Olimpico open for the Roma fans who could not follow the away team, but the manifestations of joy continued for all the streets, squares and alleys of one Roma all Giallorossi who had been waiting for a European Cup for a lifetime, after having touched others in all these years.

This Conference does not have the prestige of the Champions, we know, but it is equally important for everyone: for Italy, for the club and for the city of Rome. Italy unfortunately had a hole in the World Cup – and God knows how much it burns us – but this Cup shows that the European Championship won this summer was no accident. Our football is there and is back to winning even with a club in Europe. Our movement is not up to the Premier League, it does not have powerful and rich clubs like Real or Psg, but with ideas, heart, desire, it can give us joys, emotions and victories.

The trophy is of enormous significance to the club and to the American Friedkin estate. Roma is the Italian team that has achieved the most important results in Europe in the last four years: a Champions League semi-final in 2018, a Europa League semi-final last year and now this victory. It is a deserved victory for the Friedkin family who spent a lot to take Roma and continues to put a large amount of money into the company’s coffers. Dan and Ryan, father and son, immediately fell in love with the city, team and colors. They never speak, their voice is not even known, but they act in silence. And they do it well. As evidenced by the choice to bring to Rome a young and brilliant manager, GM Tiago Pinto, and the only coach who could collect the legacy of Totti and De Rossi in the Romanist hearts orphaned of symbols. Football is made up of results, of course, but above all of emotions, passion, involvement and a sense of belonging: Mou deserves great credit, even more than the victory of the cup (the fifth European of his enormous career: he has won all competitions) , of having brought back an entire people to the stadium. The love of the fans for the team is known: in joys and disappointments. “Roma don’t argue, they love”, “Those who support Roma never lose”, they know, they repeat it, the Giallorossi fans who deserved this happiness pass it down to themselves.

Mourinho’s tears at the end of the game show how and how much he fell into the Roma reality. His cycle has just begun and next year Roma will be at the starting line with another depth and conviction: because winning helps to win. The whole team fought, suffered and won with merit. But a special mention deserves four. Pellegrini: which continues the tradition of Roman and Romanist captains. Zaniolo: it’s nice that the winning goal came from the most talented young man, who signed him in a season of ups and downs. Abraham: the perfect acquisition that this year was the striker and leader of Rome. Spinazzola: he had celebrated the European Championship on crutches, this time he celebrated by running, he is the first signing of next year.

Finally the city: everyone knows how much Rome has suffered so many difficulties in recent years. Despite everything, it remains an absolute marvel for the eyes and the Romans, who yesterday poured into the streets in the hundreds of thousands, wanted to rejoice and forget the problems. We hope the victory is a good omen to make the city return to excel, as it deserves, in many other fields
