the Artavaggio Plans, for adults and children

Where to go skiing near Milan, if not at Piani di Artavaggio?
They are a perfect place for adults and children: they may not be Wengen or Chamonix, but they are found one hour from Milan and they have everything for a day of skiing for families with small children.
The Artavaggio Plans are a small town between 1600 and 1900 meters above sea level in the province of Lecco, which is part of the ITB (Barzie Tourist Businesses) district.
The area is small, but nothing is missing: two slopes for bobsleds, sleds and rafts, an easy route for alpine skiing, with always well-marked slopes, four treadmills serving the entire area and some beautiful panoramic off-piste slopes for snowshoeing.
If you want to know everything about the ski resort, you can read our sheet on the Artavaggio Plans, with information on facilities, ski passes, rates, weather and more.

Skiing near Milan: the Artavaggio Plans, for adults and children

Artavaggio is more relaxing and less crowded than nearby Bobbio, which has more slopes, but requires a higher level of technical preparation. This is why it is considered ideal for beginners and children: undulating tracks but not too much, some fun descents, a slope for children isolated from the others to ski safely avoiding traffic and accidents. On weekends you can take lessons with the instructors of the area.

There is also something to do for the most expert ski mountaineers, for example with the route that goes from the arrival of the cable car to Zuccone dei Campelli (2159 m), or the Campelli-Artavaggio-Bobbio crossingor an excursion on the Sodadura.

On the Piani there are five refuges, some open all year round, where you can relax in the sun, sleep without fainting and eat the full-bodied dishes of the Como cuisine: the Baita della Luna also offers quad and snowmobile rental, the Casari has a beautiful history behind it and very active managers, the Fucking Merlini stands on a rock spur, with an exceptional 360° panorama of the Alps that extends to the Po Valley, the Nicola is more isolated and contemplative, an ideal base for excursions to the surrounding mountains; The Sassi Castelli organizes family evenings, astronomical observations, themed dinners and music.

To get there: from Milan reach Lecco and take the SP 62 to Moggio. The cable car leaves here and drops you off on the slopes in less than 10 minutes (high season hours: 8.30am-5pm). Also from Moggio it rises a route for ski mountaineers which takes you to the ski resort in approximately 2h 30′.
