Chinese Legion Dominates Qualifying Round, 13 Players Advance to Snooker World Open Main Draw
The Chinese Legion emerged victorious in the qualifying round of the 2024 Snooker World Open, with all five players winning their matches and advancing to the main draw. This outstanding performance brings the total number of Chinese players in the main draw to 13, solidifying China’s strong presence in the upcoming event.
Cao Yupeng, Xu Si, Wu Yize, He Guoqiang, and Long Zehuang were the five players who secured their spots in the main draw. Cao Yupeng and Xu Si both swept their opponents 5-0, while Wu Yize and He Guoqiang also clinched victories with scores of 5-2. Long Zehuang’s path to promotion was more dramatic, as he battled back from a 3-4 deficit to win 5-4 in a thrilling match against Thachaiya Unu.
The main draw of the 2024 Snooker World Open is set to take place in Yushan County, Jiangxi Province in March, marking the event’s return to China after a five-year hiatus. The tournament will feature 22 Chinese players, including Ding Junhui and Zhang Anda, who will participate in postponed qualifying matches during the main competition.
In addition to the Chinese players, top international players such as Trump and Brecher will also join the competition. Notably, Mark Williams, ranked 8th in the world, will be absent from this year’s World Open, providing an opportunity for other players to shine.
The Snooker World Open, with a history of over 40 years, has been held in China multiple times since 2012. Yushan County has hosted the event since 2016, and the upcoming tournament promises to be an exciting competition with an increased total prize money of 815,000 pounds and a championship prize of 170,000 pounds.
