The promises of cycling compete on the streets of Castelletto Cervo

Up for grabs is the Elite / Under 23 Regional Champion jersey, which will be awarded today (departure at 13.30) on the streets of the 54th Trofeo Comune di Castelletto Cervo, organized by the homonymous Velo club in collaboration with UCAB Biella. The race since 2015 is dedicated to amateurs and always brings new protagonists ready to take flight as it happened just 6 years ago with the victory of Simone Consonni, one of the fastest today on the national scene.

The race, 154 kilometers in a circuit of 19 to be covered 8 times, will be fast as usual, but the sun arrived after the rains of the past few days could be a key discriminator. The rest will be done by the nervous track around the town, a few stretches without curves and against curves, and that short but very hard stretch of a few hundred meters, the novelty of the 2021 edition, towards Lessona in via Orolungo and which ends with the great mountain prize at the ninth kilometer of the ring.

The number of entries is around 160 units, a number adequate for the roads of the Trophy especially due to the last two sinuous and complicated kilometers to manage for a group volathon. The teams that adhered to the invitation of the Velo club Castelletto, such as Beltrami, Biesse Arvedi, Colpack, General Store, Iseo, Viris and Zalf with the border contour of the Swiss teams of Mendrisio and Speeder, are thick. Among the foreigners there is also a German team, the Team Sportforum of the Düsseldorf district, which in recent seasons has become one of the strongholds for young people aspiring to professionalism, the Russian team of Gazprom Rusvelo and the inevitable Munich. The Zalf, winner in 2018 with Milani, proposes Matteo Zurlo among others, the Venetian who has already won two races in the year and on as many occasions has reached the podium. Arvedi, who excelled in Castelletto Cervo two years ago with Davide Plebani, also gives another touch of internationality to the event by fielding the Iberian Javier Serrano Rodriguez.
