There is a true Friulian that Udinese will have to watch out for tonight. Gianfranco Cinello, one of the Italian champions 40 years ago with the Primavera, will sit on the Salernitana bench, next to Stefano Colantuono. The “Rosso di Fagagna” has been the deputy of the former Juventus coach since Colantuono (it was mid-October) took over from Castori. How did Cinello end up in Salerno? Simple: the “Cola” remembered his precious work during his experience in Friuli when Gianfranco was part of a technical staff formed by the company which included another thoroughbred Friulian, Paolo Miano.

Cinello at Udinese was there in two roles: as a footballer (four years in the youth sector from 1976 to 1980) and two in the first team (from 1980 to 1982): he was on the field on May 24, 1981 in the historic Udinese-Napoli. 2-1 with Gerolin’s goal scored two minutes from 90 ‘and that earned him salvation. With Udinese in Serie A he put together 19 appearances and two goals, an unforgettable one that earned him the equalizer at San Siro against Inter on a cross from Carletto Muraro. That was a Udinese who had just found Serie A but who would soon experience the Zico epic. Cinello has never played with Galinho and this is perhaps the only regret of his career, a career lived almost entirely in Serie B between Como and Empoli, Triestina and Cremonese (he won the championship and played the first part of the following season in Serie A before being shot at Avelino). He hung up his shoes at the age of 40, after touring four teams in the region (Sanvitese, Pro Gorizia, Itala San Marco and Sevegliano).

He returned to Udinese in the 2011-2012 season as the Allievi coach. The following year he worked with the Under 15 team, then here is the promotion to technical manager of the youth sector together with Maurizio Trombetta. During this three-year period he worked together with Miano on the Guidolin staff. With Stramaccioni he entered permanently in the technical staff of the first team, even if the company had initially decided to entrust him with the role of manager of the nursery.

After Strama, he worked with Colantuono, De Canio, Iachini and Delneri. Coinciding with the arrival of Oddo, together with Miano, he is “relegated” to the youth sector only to be recalled in the last four days alongside Tudor. Udinese knows life, death and miracles, which is why today he will be a particularly insidious “enemy”. There will be more than a few friends in the stands cheering for him, starting with Paolo Miano. Thanks to the break, the two will have the opportunity to spend a few days together, talk about the work that Miano is carrying out with the football school and remember some tasty anecdote like the one concerning Iturra. The former Juventus player arrived in the locker room and was presented to the staff kept in the dark about the operation. Colantuono, seeing him with that long, curly hair, laughed at her with his collaborators: “Guys, the look is that of a dancer, let’s hope he knows how to play ball, badly he’ll teach us to dance the tuca-tuca”. For the record, the Chilean, born in ’84, retired in 2020. And he hasn’t decided to devote himself to dancing.
