Future at the supermarket checkout purely out of self-defense
When I go to the supermarket to put the receipt for the drink back in my wallet, I realize that I don’t have a wallet with me. I didn’t leave it in the car, I left it at home and since we live in the country, home is a few kilometers away from the supermarket.
I ask at the checkout whether you can also pay with Payback, which I have, but so far I’ve only used it to collect points. As far as I know, you can also use it to pay via SEPA direct debit and I quickly set that up in the supermarket and then work through the shopping list. I also shop normally and don’t limit myself to the bare essentials because I don’t have any money. This means that either I can pay at the checkout or not, so it doesn’t matter whether I have five or fifteen items on the belt, it will be embarrassing and annoying in an emergency anyway.
At the checkout we then try Payback Pay and… it doesn’t work. A second time… still doesn’t work.
At Edeka I could pay with the great Edeka app, but Rewe now also has an app, but you can only use it to collect points and order and other things, but not pay at the checkout.
“Perhaps Apple Pay also works for you?” I ask desperately. Yes, that should work.
Now I just have to figure out how Apple Pay works again. I know it’s set up, but where can I find it on my smartphone? The answer is: In the wallet app, you have to hold your cell phone up to the EC device like a debit card and *pling*, I can pay.
I shout “Hurray!” and I’m happy and everyone behind me is also a little happy that the forgetful woman doesn’t have to pack everything up again.
You may now be able to pay with Apple Pay everywhere that normal debit cards work, but I don’t know for sure. In any case, it works at the supermarket in Much.
