Apple Music is testing playlist import function and integrating SongShift service to further compete with Spotify
In a bid to better compete with popular music streaming platform Spotify, Apple Music has begun testing a new feature on its Android beta version. The feature allows users to import music libraries and playlists from other music streaming platforms, making it easier for users to switch to Apple Music.
According to reports from Reddit users, upon entering the app, a prompt appears that says “Add saved music and playlists from other music services to the Apple Music library”. Users will also see corresponding options in the app menu.
The new feature seems to be implemented based on SongShift, a third-party service that has been helping users move music between streaming platforms for years. What sets this integration apart is that Apple has directly integrated SongShift natively into its platform, providing users with a seamless experience when switching to Apple Music.
As of now, there have been no reports of similar functional tests on the iOS version of Apple Music. However, it is expected that Apple will provide the same feature to iOS users in the near future.
This move by Apple is seen as a direct attempt to compete with Spotify, which has been a leading player in the music streaming industry for some time.
