Design to match the Mix Fold 2

The new Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro have been released alongside the new Mix Fold 2. Here, too, the headphones were given the elegant design of the foldable smartphone. There is one to choose from gold and black color variant. The headphones and the case consist partly of matt and partly of shiny metallic tones.

LDAC Bluetooth-Codec

Inside became a 11mm dynamic driver installed, which one hi-fi to provide sound. Here the competition usually or often already uses double drivers. For high quality music one supports next to Bluetooth 5.3 also finally LDAC instead of the LHDC codec in the Chinese version.

The difference between the two codecs is rather marginal in the high bit rate (cannot be heard without the corresponding high-resolution music anyway), but the compatibility of LDAC on Android smartphones is significantly better than with the LHDC codec, which tends to be supported by fewer smartphones. Apple stays out of both codecs and doesn’t support either of them.

Information about the LC3 codec, which will soon be supported in Android 13, is not yet available.

After all, you have the support of Multipoint. That means you can connect multiple devices at the same time, so switching between smartphone and laptop, for example, is faster and easier. We do not yet know whether multipoint and LDAC will be supported in parallel.

Finally good ANC?

Now they advertise that their ANC Ambient noise should be reduced by up to 48 dB. Only a test can show whether they have improved there. When it comes to the RRP, they have to be able to keep up or even better than the damn strong competition from Sony.

New app connection

Xiaomi finally has an app that lets you use their headphones. We hope this is the new one Mi Headphones App is now also appearing in Europe and finally enables the Xiaomi headphones to be configured properly. We are also unable to currently assess which other in-ears from Xiaomi are supported.

Controlling the in-ears

The Buds 4 Pro can be controlled in two ways. On the one hand over the pressure sensitive headphone stem by simple press together. This can be used to control media playback and ANC. And then there is this time too a language assistant, who should understand and perform words like “next song”. This will probably only be possible in Chinese at the moment.

Conclusion / assessment: Buy Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro?

In themselves, they are probably good headphones, but the price is clearly set too high. If you look at the competition, you get the same thing for a cheaper price. One advantage, however, is that a change has been made to the Chinese version: instead of LHDC, the headphones are now much more compatible with Android smartphones with LDAC.
