Bus manufacturer Yutong uses batteries in new vehicles

Yutong, one of China’s largest bus manufacturers, said the new batteries will be used in upcoming electric vehicles. According to the company, the new long-lasting EV battery shows no degradation in the first 1,000 cycles. Yutong calls the long-lasting battery a real industry first. The bus manufacturer has also introduced a different battery with a lifespan of ten years and a range of one million kilometers.

CATL and Yutong entered into a 10-year partnership in 2012 to jointly develop commercial vehicle batteries and explore new technologies and materials. The partners plan to use their resources to expand internationally with new vehicles and batteries. Yutong buses are equipped with CATL batteries. They are already sold in over 40 countries including Italy, France, Great Britain, Spain and Qatar.

CATL is part of the battery “All-Star” team

This news is the latest in a series of advances in battery technology that the group has made recently. In February, the battery giant, other Chinese automakers and battery makers joined forces with rival BYD and other industry leaders such as NIO to form an “all-star” team to develop solid-state batteries. China already dominates the electric car battery market, with BYD and CATL alone accounting for over 50 percent.

According to SNE Research, CATL sales in the United States and Europe have doubled in the past year. BYD and CATL batteries are already used in electric cars from Tesla, Ford, BMW, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Kia and several other leading automakers.
