KIA, BMW, Mercedez-Benz, and Sony Unveil Cutting-Edge Automotive Technology at CES 2024
The CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is known for showcasing the latest in televisions, computers, and video game accessories. However, this year’s event also highlighted groundbreaking advancements in the automotive industry, with KIA, BMW, Mercedez-Benz, and Sony unveiling their latest innovations.
KIA made a notable return to CES after a significant absence, showcasing the prototype of their modular car called Concept PV5. This vehicle is designed to adapt to various commercial needs, such as package deliveries, transportation services, and public use. The Concept PV5 is part of KIA’s PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle) plan, which aims to develop customized commercial fleets and solutions to enhance profitability and reduce downtime.
In a similar vein, BMW introduced the BMW 9 operating system, which allows access to video games and third-party applications through the ConnectedDrive Store. They also unveiled the BMW Theater Screen, providing access to live channels and on-demand multimedia content. Additionally, BMW presented the XREAL Air 2 augmented reality glasses, enabling real-time driving instructions and entertainment.
Mercedez-Benz showcased the MBUX Sound Drive, a feature that syncs music with driving movements, offering an interactive music experience. They also revealed the use of AI-powered technology for environmental perception and route planning, as well as a collaboration with Microsoft to develop an AI entertainment system.
Sony took a unique approach with the unveiling of their electric car concept, AFEELA, developed in collaboration with Honda. Director, President, and Chief Operating Officer of Sony Honda Mobility, Izumi Kawanishi, even drove the car onto the stage using a PlayStation 5 controller. The AFEELA is set to feature artificial intelligence from Microsoft and allow users to virtually experience the driving through the Gran Turismo 7 game.
Furthermore, Goodyear and ZF introduced SightLine technology, equipped with vehicle motion control software to improve driving safety and efficiency. This system can detect phenomena such as aquaplaning and take automatic measures to stabilize the vehicle, ultimately enhancing safety on the road.
These automotive advancements showcased at CES 2024 highlight the industry’s commitment to incorporating cutting-edge technology and innovation into the driving experience. With a focus on AI, augmented reality, and personalized entertainment, the future of automotive technology looks promising.
