Cheaper storage options available for Xbox Series S/X –

Upgrading storage for new consoles isn’t cheap, as they rely entirely on SSD technology. While the Xbox Series X has 802 usable storage to the PlayStation 5’s 667GB, the latter uses a standard solution (M.2 SSD) which means you can expand it and choose from a plethora of options, adding to your Opportunity to get the right size at a great price.

The Xbox Series S/X use a proprietary format, which is, to be fair, more user-friendly, but also means higher prices and fewer options. Also, it doesn’t help that the only brand that makes them is Seagate. Or at least it was until early April, when we revealed that Western Digital was about to launch cheaper storage options for the Xbox Series S/X.

Now they’re officially live and got a dedicated page with news. You can choose between 500GB ($79.99) or 1 TB ($149.99), and it’s a plug-and-play memory card that simply slots into a dedicated slot on the back of the Xbox. Both memory cards also include a 1-month membership to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Western Digital wrote:

“The WD_BLACK C50 Expansion Card for Xbox leverages the Xbox Velocity Architecture and delivers similar performance to your Xbox Series X|S internal storage, allowing you to play seamlessly with all your favorite games.

Hopefully more options will lead to cheaper prices (although the difference is not that impressive so far), as storage has been a hassle this generation as games get bigger and SSDs are quite expensive.
