Omega Pays Tribute to Apollo 8 Mission and Pink Floyd with Dark Side Of The Moon Watch

Did you know that humans only ever see half of the moon when looking up at the night sky, with the other half always hidden from view? This phenomenon is known as the “Dark Side Of The Moon”, a term made famous by the classic album released by Pink Floyd 51 years ago today.

In 2018, Omega launched a special edition Speedmaster watch named “Dark Side Of The Moon” to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 8 mission, where astronauts became the first to see the moon’s dark side. This year, Omega has released a new version of the watch, featuring a hand-wound movement with blackened main boards and bridges, and a unique small seconds hand inspired by NASA’s Saturn 5 rocket.

The name “Dark Side Of The Moon” was chosen by Pink Floyd as a metaphor for the unknown and the human condition, particularly inspired by former band member Syd Barrett’s struggles with emotional illness. The band’s iconic album continues to resonate with listeners, reminding us to confront our own dark sides and learn to navigate negative emotions.
