Modern Body Demon + JK, does it smell good or not?

Developed by Digital Happiness, an independent game studio in Indonesia, the PC version was first released to critical acclaim, and then ported to Xbox and PS platforms. Until recently, it finally came to the Switch platform. Unknowingly, “DreadOut 2” was first released in 2020. Of course, whether the game is fun or not has nothing to do with whether it is old or new. The physical version of “DreadOut 2” for Switch is distributed by Singaporean publisher Soft Source Publishing in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. The physical first edition includes grating sleeves, towels, and the character of the protagonist Linda. The acrylic bracket and developer thank you card, which are full of sincerity, were put on the shelves on January 25.

“DreadOut 2” Switch version review:

In the Indonesian folk supernatural legend game, is it common knowledge that ghosts use cameras?

The player plays the protagonist Linda, a high school student who is born with supernatural powers. She can sense and see ghosts, talk to ghosts, and rely on her mobile phone to hunt down and defeat invisible evil spirits and ghosts – the modern body demon. +JK, do you think you have done something about it? The answer is quite satisfactory.

Since it was developed by an Indonesian company, there are no more common Japanese/European and American ghosts, so it does feel a bit unique to us. In the early stages of the game, Linda will use her mobile phone to fight ghosts through photography, and there are also light and heavy photography attacks (?). Similar concepts can be seen in the “Zero~” series, and there is not much difference when switching to a mobile phone, but some of the enemies in this game are very flexible, and the operation is a bit laggy like a PS1 game, so the difficulty is definitely not low. Weapons such as vampire swords can also be obtained in the middle, and the firepower is naturally much better. However, the operating feel is still a shortcoming, but it is an independent and niche work, which is excusable.

As mentioned above, after all, it is not a AAA masterpiece. In addition, it was originally released a few years ago, and the graphics at that time were not that good, so we still judge it based on creativity and gameplay. The game is a bit thoughtful in terms of details, such as the Indonesian town that appears in the game, or the enemies that appear, etc. I like that they did not use too many jump scares to create “horror”, but used sound effects, art, and environmental atmosphere. In addition, although the game uses camera body ghosts, the gameplay is completely different from the “Zero~” series. This game is more similar to the TPS of “Biohazard 4”, except that our Linda is more difficult to control. Don’t take it for granted. Think of it as a pure horror game. Anyway, the fear only comes from the sexual fetish and lack of firepower. If you don’t feel comfortable, just fight it.
