Stiftung Warentest has tested the best e-book readers. PR/Business Insider

Stiftung Warentest tested 13 different e-book readers in an international community test.

The results of the study were published in the May issue (2024) of “Test” magazine.

The Pocketbook Inkpad 4* and the Tolino Epos 3* were named test winners. Two cheaper alternatives are the Tolino Shine 4* and the Amazon Kindle (2022)*.

E-Book-Reader are practical and therefore very popular. So it’s no wonder that there are now a large number of providers. The best known are manufacturers such as Amazon Kindle, Tolino, Pocketbook and Kobo, who charge up to 400.00 euros for an e-book reader. But which models are really worth the money? Cheap alternatives to the test winners

The two very good e-book readers are also among the most expensive models that Stiftung Warentest has tested. The only e-book readers with stylus pens are even more expensive. What else you should know about the e-book reader test from Stiftung Warentest

Overall, you can’t go wrong when buying an e-book reader. This is what we found in the test by Stiftung Warentest Twelve of the 13 devices examined achieved good to very good results. Only one of the models with a stylus was satisfactory – and that too just barely. The reader (the Lenovo Smart Paper) only missed the better quality rating of “good” by 0.1 grade point.

Our conclusion: Which e-book reader should you buy?

The two test winners have no weaknesses and are one for that reason alone excellent choice. However, they are also very expensive. If you want to save a few euros, you should choose one of the two cheaper alternatives, which also have no significant weak points. The test by Stiftung Warentest proved this. Just that one Kindle could be worthwhile, as Amazon has created an exciting ecosystem for the e-book reader, which includes an extensive shop and the e-book flat rate Kindle Unlimited* heard.
