Google Announces New AI Tools to Enhance Search Experience on Android Phones

In a bid to make online searches “radically more useful,” Google has unveiled two new artificial intelligence tools. These features will allow users to access more information and ask nuanced questions about images and text, making the search experience more personalized and intuitive.

Mobile users who access Google on select Android phones will soon be able to circle or highlight items on their smartphone screens to reveal more information. These tools have been created using generative AI, the technology behind viral chatbots like ChatGPT, and have been tested since last year to ensure their effectiveness.

During Samsung’s Unpacked event, the features were unveiled and are set to be available on the upcoming Galaxy S24 range of smartphones. They will also be rolled out on other high-end Android smartphones, including the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, starting January 3.

The first feature, called “Circle to Search,” will allow users to circle, tap, highlight, or scribble on images, videos, or text to obtain more information about what they see. Additionally, users can use their mobile cameras or upload photos to ask questions through the Google application and obtain information in real-time.

Google’s commitment to artificial intelligence reflects the current momentum in the technology sector, with companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and others racing to implement similar technologies.

A Google spokesperson said, “We’ve only scratched the surface of what’s possible,” signaling the company’s dedication to continuing advancements in AI technology.

The new AI tools are expected to enhance the search experience for Android users and are set to launch soon, making it easier for people to access information and obtain detailed insights on the go.
