Instagram is apparently testing an AI chatbot, a mobile developer reports.
The chatbot could answer questions, give advice, and help users write messages.
Earlier this year, Snapchat released its own AI chatbot, which received generally negative reviews.
AI chatbots are seemingly everywhere — and now they could be making their way to Instagram, too.
The social platform appears to be working on an AI chatbot that can answer questions, offer advice, and help compose messages. That’s going out a tweet by mobile developer Alessandro Paluzzi who often reverse-engineers Instagram’s code to predict what’s next for the platform.
According to Paluzzi, users will be able to choose between 30 different personalities for the AI agents. According to his post, they could offer creative solutions to “find the best way to express yourself.”
Instagram didn’t immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comment about the chatbot.
Snapchat already has an AI chatbot
In February, Snapchat began launching its own chatbot, powered by Chat GPT and dubbed My AI — to lesser reviews. The chatbot can write haikus, plan trips, and recommend birthday gifts, the company says.
Some users complained that My AI disrupted the Snapchat user experience, while others complained that the chatbot had access to a significant amount of data, including about their location.
Meta previously announced it was experimenting with AI on Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram. In February, Zuckerberg said the company’s long-term goal is to “create AI personalities who can help people in a variety of ways,” and on Instagram, the company is working on AI to optimize filters and ads.
Meta has also used AI tools to boost its ad business. Advantage+, one of those tools, finds audiences and automatically places ads on Metas platforms. The company is currently developing a way for advertisers to create and test ads using AI.
