Intel Unveils Details of Next-Generation Lunar Lake Architecture Processor with Upgraded GPU and Low Power Consumption

Intel has announced that the highly anticipated Meteor Lake architecture processor will only be launched in 2023, but in the meantime, the core design of the next-generation Lunar Lake architecture processor has been revealed. The new processor will feature an upgraded built-in GPU, known as Xe2, and will also introduce the Lunar Lake-MX mobile device product line, boasting a remarkable lowest TDP power consumption of just 8W.

The core design concept of the Lunar Lake architecture processor builds on the Intel Core Ultra 100 series and includes an independent NPU core for AI functions. The NPU has been upgraded to version 4.0, significantly improving efficiency. Additionally, the CPU P-core and E-core have also been enhanced, with power consumption for different core block connections reduced by up to 75% for better power control.

One of the key developments is the introduction of the Lunar Lake-MX mobile device product line, which is specifically designed for mobile devices. The product line will include Core 7 and Core 5 models, both equipped with four P-cores and four E-cores. The Core 7 will feature a six-core NPU, while the Core 5 will have a five-core NPU.

The Lunar Lake-MX boasts a minimum power consumption of only 8W, supporting a fanless fully passive cooling design. For fan devices, a high-performance version with a TDP of 17-30W will be available. The processor also adopts a Foveros multi-chip packaging design, stacking two sets of DRAM chips with the CPU, and supporting LPDDR5x-8533.

In addition, the Lunar Lake-MX will feature the new Battlemage architecture Xe2-LPG built-in GPU, supporting various display outputs and advanced decoding capabilities.

Looking ahead, Intel’s Lunar Lake-MX processor is highly dependent on the successful development of the Battlemage GPU, which has not been confirmed yet. The company is betting on this GPU to be a selling point for promoting the Lunar Lake-MX.

With the release of the Lunar Lake architecture processor and the new Lunar Lake-MX mobile device product line, Intel is set to make significant strides in the technology industry. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development.
