Square Enix and Applibot have announced that the first mobile game in the NieR series, “NieR Re[in]carnation,” will be coming to an end. The game’s operation will cease on April 30, with the final chapter, “Sanna Act: Reincarnation Chapter,” set to be released on March 29. The announcement was made via the game’s official Twitter account, stating that the story of “Carnation” will be completed with the release of the final chapter.

Despite not being closely related to the world line of the previous game, “NieR Re[in]carnation” has garnered a dedicated fan base and has been downloaded more than 10 million times on both iOS and Android platforms. The game, developed by the original team behind “NieR: Automata,” focuses on plot-oriented gameplay and follows the player as they explore memories in a vast 3D mysterious area.

The game’s Japanese version was launched on iOS and Android in February 2021, with a Taiwan Traditional Chinese version following in July 2022. However, the Traditional Chinese version was suspended less than a year after its launch. The official announcement of the game’s impending end has sparked disappointment among fans, but the developers have promised multiple events leading up to the cessation of the game’s operation, including free limited-time draws and a redemption shop for past event characters and weapons.

The news comes as a disappointment for fans of the game, especially with the third anniversary event of the Japanese version originally scheduled to start in February. The events leading up to the end of the game’s service on April 30 will mark a bittersweet send-off for “NieR Re[in]carnation” and its dedicated player base.
