returning to Italy for Easter, how to avoid it

Close to Easter 2024, the incomplete address telephone scam has made its appearance again, inevitably under a new guise. The SMS that is reaching Italians in this period actually mentions a supposedly incomplete civic.

The modus operandi of the bad guys is always the same: attempt to rush the victim and associated malicious link (with relative shortener). In this case, the message received by some users in late March 2024 features the following text: “Due to an incomplete house number, we are unable to deliver your items to your home. Please enter the address“.

We don’t know if this is the only variant of the message in circulation, but a year ago we reported a similar scam on these pages. The pattern repeats itself: also in this case reference is made to the alleged failure to deliver a package, a great classic of SMS scams. The aim of the attackers is the usual: obtain sensitive user data.

How can you defend yourself? The advice is always that of never click on these links and to avoid messages that try to convey urgency. Furthermore, it is worth noting that bad actors are not aware of your orders, which is why these messages usually come across as very generic. For the rest, rest assured: there is no incomplete house number for your online orders, also because otherwise you would be notified in a very different way.

Perhaps apply the coffee rule to protect yourself from scams and have a quiet feast of Easter eggs over the weekend.
